Hey guys ive been making tunes for bloody ages now, i want to make dirtier hard dance, and quite honestly i cant find anything suitable to make the sort of  Hoovery scream sounds.. and gated grime sounds.. Im thinking hardware is the best bet.. what can I get that is cheap/2nd hand and still be great for that karim style of bosh..

if that made any sense?

Personally I'd suggest the korg legacy collection (software btw), but I suppose you could always try and track down a Juno

Yeah you could always buy an Alpha Juno or the rackmount version but don't expect it to spit out hard house hoovers on command. You really need to know what you are doing with that synth to get the sounds you want out of it.

Personally I think JunoX2 (VST) is a decent substitute.

Agreed. i still use it at times. Can create some great sounds out of it and cpu load is nothing thumbsup

Yeah it's a great little plugin. Shame they discontinued it, took me ages to track down a copy.

ive got an alpha juno which ive had for years and while its really good at making a few of the recognisable old school sounds its not very versatile, your probably better off getting the legacy collection and/or sylenth, especially if you have loads of decent effects vst, as the hardware juno doesnt have anything apart from chorus (although depending on your set up you might be able to run it through your daw) im not really keen on the juno x2 vst to be honest

Get a MicroKorg. You can pick one up for quite cheap second hand, it takes up fairly little space and it sounds immense.

obviously you aint been making tunes long enough to know that soft synths far out weigh the hardware these days, especially for dance looking

I had the hardware and fuck me it was long winded...only then to just use samples.

get yourself decent long playing single shot samples of the sounds you want...then go through some automated filters and FX to mould the sound into what you need..... piss easy.

Kontact itself gives you unlimited FX and control on samples...layered samples etc..

The Sensation preset pack for the old Pro53 even gives you really dirty harsh sounds. The new VST by Computer Music even gives you these mad sounds too.

There really is no need to be buying hardware based on what your after. There are plenty of decent softsynths. Sylenth1 and Nexus are a couple ive been using alot recently.

I dont agree with this at all, all analogue synths are different- some are total crap for making the kind of synth he is talking about. A juno 2 would be good, a juno 6 wouldnt be as good for example.

i always suggest people buy analog if they're gonna get hardware...

some analog synths are crap for some applications, obviously, do your homework before you buy anything

analog hardware is great as long as you know what you are buying and prepared for expensive repairs if all goes pete tong!

I agree to a certain extent that some analog hardware is impossible to digitise completely, but a lot needs FX added to get anything decent.

Most PCM based synths are easily replicated due to being software (ROM) driven anyway.
