Ive never used a pioneer deck ever and as im dj on either 800 or 1000's for the first time im after some info.

Pitch>>
the 1000's have 8/16/24..wide(100%) but what does it step up/down in ie 0.1% increments
same for the 800's, although i believe that that only has 10% and wide 100%, is that in 0.1% increments too?

you do use vinyl mode right, not cdj mode?
Cant remember what else was bothering me at the mo, doh!
Ill be back

the 1000's have a 6 pitch. that goes up/down in 0.2% which is the smallest increment.

i use cdj mode but i guess it just depends which you feel more conforable with.

For the 1000's it lets you set the range at 6,10,16 or wide.  At 6 the increment is 0.02% and 0.05% at 10, I am not sure about the others as I don't use them

Vinyl mode simulates a real deck i.e. you put your finger on the platter & push it forward it speeds up fast or push it backs & it rewinds the track just like a normal turntable. Good for scratching & spinbacks etc.
CDJ mode allows you to speed up or slow down a track again by pushing the platter but not as noticable as in vinyl mode. So you can push the platter forward or back to keep it in time with what your mixing if you need to. If you push it backwards it doesn't reverse the track like in vinyl mode, just slows it down.
I use CDJ mode for the majority of my mixing

It does seem a really small increment and I thought 0.2% at first laughing

I've got 1000mk3's and they do go to 0.02% in 6% mode. I always use this mode now as it gets your mixes absolutely bang on, with practically no fiddling to keep it in sync.

I've always been a fan of vinyl mode and only ever use this now. I like the way you que up just like a pair of 1210's and it feels more intuitive mixing this way. The platter is touch sensitive so you get a pitch bend feature by just spinning backwards or forwards the side of the platter instead of actually touching the platter. It's a very nice way to get that track back in although it does take some practice.

Ill poss have a blast a vinyl mode, you can still use the outer bezel for pitch bending cant you?
think might have to sell my denon's and get some pio's to avoid me asking so many stoopid questions wink

I started off using vestax CD decks so the platter is not anywhere near as good.  So I use the vinyl mode to pick a cue point and after that use the normal mode and light nudges forwards or backwards where they are needed when cueing up.  When I actually mix the record in though I have reverted to the technique that I used to use on vinyl and try and refrain for touching the platter to adjust and mostly do it with the pitch control thumbsup

hahaha, you can do all that with vinyl mode. the difference is you can find your cue point as you would a vinyl which you can't do using cdj mode, you can do spinbacks, you can scratch, etc etc etc etc etc. way better

a) yes

b) If you use CDJ style cueing i.e. Play, pause, find first beat, press cue.

Press play, grab the top of the platter and move it to the beginning of the first beat, wiggle it back and forth just like a turntable, then let it go at the right moment. Just like vinyl really, very intuitive and easy to use.

I avoid the vinyl mode though, cause I've got a bad habit of touching the top of the platter whilst playing a tune and stopping it in it's tracks.

you can also use the cue button in vinyl mode which is what i do. play>pause>move platter until you find the first beat>press cue. sorted!

Yeah I'm sure I've pressed from one to the other whilst playing out and it's stopped the tune (at the end of a set so not too bad) but I can't remember what CDJ that was on (maybe 800s or a Mk2 1000) or maybe I made it up entirely but I have an irrational fear of toggling now. Either way you can toggle while playing on the Mk3 1000s.

CDJ mode all the way smile

Yes - unless you want it to start playing the next tune once the tune you are playing has finished (not good if you have left the upfader up and you want to run the mix right to the end of the tune)
