Firstly you need a graffix card with 2 outputs on it.

Usually there will be 1 DVI out and 1 VGA out so you will need to buy a converter for 1 of them depending on your monitors connection.

Once both monitors are plugged in boot up and windows will recognise the 2nd automatically, all you have to do is enable it as a second desktop in the display properties. You might want to get a desktop app like 'UltraMON', for things like extending your taskbar and snapping to monitors etc

yer as  i have same  thing mate just plug ya pci  card in  shud have either 2 x blue outputs on one blue  one white which is dvi then if thats the case u will need a  dvi to vga converter as the mother board vga monitor terminal will not work after new graphics card is plugged in then plug in ya monitors and as robbie said shud auto pick up both screens once restarted make sure comp off wen plugging in im sure u knew anyway !  it may open as a clone desktop which is the same thing  on both sides which is no good for wat y awant if  ya open up nividea control panel  then run multiple display wizard or  select the dual view option  u will then restart and have  two screens to open  two seperate  programs effectively one long desktop to have a few windows open at once it was certainly best thing i ever done have 2  hope that helps mate

Those cards come in different types mate some have 2 out's and some don't.

Just have a look at it, if it has 2 outputs your laughing.

2 out's will look like this...

that should be fine.... even got a dvi to vga converter in the box so you will have 2 vga outs straight away. i am assuming that the monitors are CRT (old tv style) and not lcd.

i am also making the assumption that you know that its an AGP motherboard and have therefore chosen the AGP card smile

2 monitors rock, but now 2 is not big enough frown

i have two dell 17" flat screen monitors. the 1 am i using at the mo just connects via the vga, so i am assumning that with the dvi - vga adaptor they will both be fine.

i think my mother board is pci, although i aint sure. can you clarrify? or how do i check this?  therefore i should really have found a pci graphics card    uhoh

Try and get one with two DVI outputs. If you're using flat panels they'll look much better connected by DVI.

Also see if you can find a fanless card, as graphics card fans can be annoyingly noisey in a studio environment.

oo ok, i'll see have a look then.  I hadnt thought about the fan, they can hum away quite loud sometimes. wont no fan mean that it could get hot tho?

Fanless cards inevitably run hotter despite all the elaborate cooling solutions the various manufacturers have come up with. As long as you have decent airflow in your case this shouldn't be a problem though.

You can get graphics cards with 'silent' fans though, or even fit your own after-market fan. Best have a look around for cards that are specifically advertised as silent or low noise and post them up here. thumbsup

That looks ideal - as long as the slot to the left of your AGP slot is not in use that will be perfect.

I’ll have a look once I get home from work later.  Although I have just noticed it says its for vista, I am using xp, is that going to be a problem?
