To be fair, the romans did touch on scotland, but after sending in various small armies form the empire, not the actual roman empire and being chased out by lunatic scotsman, they just figured it was best to leave them alone

yeah, i'd read that the wall was built to stop raiding parties (this was in books written in the 30's though so don't know how much is still considered accurate)
