I need a new music pc as I only have an ancient laptop.

Would anything with a fast processor and lots of memory be ok?

Dual Core or Quad Core processor??

Can anyone tell me which is best and why?

Either or mate.. just make sure u have a decent sized processor with fair amount of RAM. On my PC im running Dualcore 2.21Ghz 4200+ AMD Athlon with 2G or RAM. On my G5 im running Dual Core 2.5Ghz with 6G RAM. Quadcore / Dualcore.. it's all good!!

Anything over 2.0 Ghz Processor is good but with new CPU chewing software coming out it's better to look ahead and buy something that wont need upgrading for a while.

That spec (other than the graphics) is identical to my old PC and a very capable beast it is, I presume this rig wouldn't be for games though Nomis as the gpu isn't that good.

What sequencer are you going to be using? So i've read on a few threads on here, FL studio (what i use) is only equiped for 2 processors but if you use Cubase then you are better off going for a Quad Core. I've got a Dual 2.6gh ( clocked to 2.9 biggrin) with 3gb  of ram I very rarely have the cpu above 70% and I have very low latency.
