I was chatting with my lad on msn last night and during the conversation he said this :

When I read those words I felt like I've done all I set out to when he was born, being a father is an amazing journey full of new experiences and emotions.

That's awesome mate! I suppose as a parent that's the best thing to hear from your child.

It's inspired me to tell my mom how awesome she is. Don't tell her that I love her enough.

Thats fucking brilliant mate. Must make you so proud that your lad thinks that highly of you If my kids ever say that to me il truly know i did a good job. And then maybe cry a little.

Just part of our language mate, I've never had a problem with it and both my lads are respectful enough of others not to use it when it's not appropriate.

u got the respect of ur kids at quite a young age - how old is he btw? cos between 14-18 are the tough years, or so i was told

Be careful how much notice you take of what you're told Rudi, James is nearly 19 now but between the ages of 13 and 18 (the supposed "terrible teen years") we rarely had a cross word.

I clearly recall a time when James was 15 that he'd started to act a little differently and was expressing his own opinion...at first it felt like a threat but I decided to stand back and remember my own youth and feelings...pretty soon I realised that this behaviour is just a part of our natural change so held back my imeadiate frustrations and treated him as an equal.


Within a week the situation was rectified and none of us have ever even mentioned it again.


For me being a parent has alot to do with remembering what it's like to be a child.

Mutual respect has incredible benefits.
