The doctors has prescribed me some of these for my upcoming holiday flight.  I am still not entirely sure what they will do.  Anyone know and will they help or make me semi-concious?

The flight is 4hr 40mins and realistically I want to be ready for partying a couple of hours after we land happy.  If Diazepam won't be enough I could do a few vodkas and Nytol as well and see what happens laughing

Take the Diazepam before you fly. It will work, and you shouldn't need other stuff with them.

I was joking.  I hate flying enough to be sensible about this.  In an ideal world I would like to pass out just as we taxi to the runway and then wake we are just about at the terminal.  Like me 30 minute snooze this morning that felt like 30 seconds laughing

Dosage is 2mg.  On the way out flight is 9am so I have been told to take one the night before and 2 at check in.  I imagine it will be 3-4pm before we have our room and are ready to grab a beer and some food.  thumbsup

Indeed. I took temezepam when I flew to oz, and the person I was seeing was meeting me at airport. Through nerves, I had a couple of vodka's on plane and was in a bit of a pickle when landed. I should have known better 2far laughing

I once had a 10hr flight to Japan to contend with, so I downed about five or six of those mini bottles of red wine with the expectation that I'd pass out and wake up in Japan.  Didn't work.  Passed out, woke up an hour later and was violently sick.  I also didn't *quite* make it to the toilet either.  I came out and several Japanese flight attendants were cleaning my mess up thumbsup

Ah is it?  I didn't know that.  I won't be drinking on them and right now I am thinking that I may not even drink later on in the evening after taking the last dosage before 9am.  Will have to see.

I have the horrible feeling that this is set up to go wrong.  I will take as per doctors instructions at check in and then find out on the other side we have a long delay violent

Wrong. In an ideal world you'd take the tablets before you even left the house as statistically you're 6 times more likely to die driving to the airport as you are on the plane thumbsup

You also have more chance of being struck by lighting so be real careful with those thunderstorms biggrin

Are the plane stats not calculated by distance rather than number of passengers and journeys though?

Phobias are not logical enough to relate to stats anyway.  I am not a very comfortable passenger in any form of transport generally anyway.  I was never brilliantly happy with flying but one experience pushed that from something I am not keen on to a phobia.  I will be much more comfortable when my Mrs is driving us into Leeds, on the train to the airport, on the transfer etc than on the plane.  It doesn't matter which is the more dangerous form of transport.

If it did anything it would make me more nervous of other forms of transport without improving the flying thing.

Once I get back from this holiday I am going to look into more long term solutions.  Someone on here before suggested I should get a book from Paul McKenna I think and that may help.

As per what I put.  I take them where instructed and they veg me out nicely but we are stuck in the terminal due to delays laughing

The drinking will be more about actually being there and away from stresses of life later on.  I can knock it on the head for the first afternoon/evening there anyway.  Beer with breakfast the day after though laughing

Fear of flying is irrational but as you said, phobias don't account for rational thinking. One of my uncles is a bit if an hard bastard but show him a spider and he'll run out the room screaming. When you are in a car you feel a sense of control that you don't get when you are a passenger of a plane 30000 ft up.

I was flying from Belfast to Southampton once on a small British Airways jet and as we coming into land the pilot announced that the landing gear would not come down.   He said not to worry as in a few moments the Co-pilot will walk through aisle to manually release the landing gear.  Sure enough, co-pilot walked through with what can best be described as a Big Spanner.  He lifted up the carpet and wound down the landing gear with it.    He stood up and gave the thumbs up and everyone cheered.   The funniest thing was when he got back to the cockpit the Captain came out and double checked, then gave two thumbs up.    We landed safely but it was a bit hairy.  We got followed by the Fire crew all the way to the terminal.   We found out later that there was also a problem with landing gear locked indicator, so even though it was down there was no guarentee it had locked into place.   Thank fuck they kept little nugget to themselves though!! laughing

Oh and there was another time when I was flying to Canada in a Hercules and an engine caught fire,  and we literally dived about 5000 ft in seconds to put it out, then landed on 3 engines.

I love flying! laughing

What was your bad experience ?

A plane that was chartered by my company for the Euro 2000 game against Romnia (I won tickets) and was going for take off when it had a frontlanding gear problem.  Ended up snaking about on the runway, stuff flying around in the plane and 2-3 panels fell out the celling, 1 of them clonked a guy on the head.  We were near the back and the plane was bending a little as it was skidding about.  Apparently the hyrdraulix had broke and locked it sidewards as it was accelerating.  We had to get out of the plane on Stanstead run way and onto a bus back to the hospitallity bit.

Have flown a few times since and had a small BA plane land in bad wind at Manchester by getting one wheel down on one side with the wing nearly touching the runway and then slam the other side down.  Probably pretty common TBH but with me already having a phobia did not help.  My nerves were also not helped by the fact I wandered out of arrivals and had someone randonly leap at me and grabbed me  Was my Mrs though who had caught the train to the airport to meet me unexpectidly laughing

Sky Diving would be right on my limit I reckon. I could probably talk myself into it but I'm not in any rush. I've done a bungy jump and those that have done both said the bungy was worse but I'm not sure. Diving head first off a 200 foot crane with some elastic round your ankle is no joke though munted

as with all benzodiazapines they are very dangerous if mis-used or over used.

YOu can very quickly become dependant on them and the 2mg just won't do and you will want 4mg 6mg 8mg to have the same sleepy effect.

Stay clear of Benzo's if you can, Doctors prescribe it and then we have to sort people out who decide its too good to live without it.

I cain the fuckers on my flights to Thailand lol. Drink loads of beer and then neck 5 or 6 pills in one go and it knocks me the fuck out completely (Which is what i want, i'm a VERY light sleeper so i cannot ever sleep on planes). Then i wake up 6 or 7 hours later in some middle eastern country and have to get off and get on another flight to Bangkok. That's the tricky bit, I'm all over the place lol.. Proper spaced out and can't think straight from the diazies and beer laughing

Exactly what he said..

I had a serious addiction to these for about 4 years and the doctor just kept prescribing me more and more..

They really fuck your head up..And if its your first time taking them deffinitly dont drink while on them you wont be able to function....And dont take them if you have indulged in anything else either as this can have serious concequencesthumbsup

Diazi is awesome stuff... Took it after working a late shift once (3-11pm) and was asleep in no time... I'd normally be wide awake until 3 or 4 am after working that shift.
Prefer to get to sleep naturally if at all possible though, I can definitely see a habit forming if I let it

My mate's mother doesn't use her prescriptions, so she gets a constant supply of diazi and random other stufflaughing

In short- no it doesn't.

Valium is an anti anxiety drug so when you take it you calm down and feel very comfortable- like being wrapped in a big cosy duvet.

Howver sleep is much easier on it because it's reduced your mind to a state of calm. You don't worry about anything so you're chilled out enough to drop off nice and easy.

I've used it many times after clubbing when i've felt too wired to sleep- 10mg of the stuff chills me right out and enables me to nod off.

I also take it when flying long haul- even if I don't want to sleep.

Not had any for months and months though

Diazepam is useless for flying, you'll still die of extreme head trauma when the plane hits the ground laughing

yeah, was going to say. it didn't make me sleepy, just a warm smiley relaxed feeling. then again i was taking it for anxiety for a situation that made me shake like a maraca, so maybe i didn't have enough to reach that stage.

This time last yearI was getting D10's for a €1 each off a mate, nothin better when your on a come down just neck 3 of them and wake up 8 hours later feeling top notch.
kingthumbsup

If they are the same thing it kind of works out a tiny bit cheaper on prescription
They are the same thing John, however I think you said the ones you got were 2 mg, the ones I was gettin were 10mg muntedand the amount me and my mates were goin through I think any doctor may have become a little suspicious and stopped prescribing them.
laughing

Ah, mine are dearer then.  What amazed me is that I walked in and said why I was there and he just asked me how long the flight was and when it was and did me the prescription.  I would have thought he would have checked out more or wanted proof of tickets or something.  Especially considering people take them for fun

Which is exactly what I will have lots of when flying normally.  I quite a stressy person generally anyway

So the Valium will rid you of your anxiety, chill you out and enable you to sleep should you choose to.
