Hey Guys,

I have a pair of Alesis Prolinear DSP monitors, and they sound awesome, however...I am noticing that whatever i produce on them sounds great while im listening to them...however when i get it onto another system, the mid-hi range is all out of wack...the levels sound so hot, near distortion levels...until i get ergo which i hope will correct it...is there any sort of magic eq trick i can do ? should i put an eq on the main channel while listening that boosts these levels to make up the difference, and then drop the eq before i render ?

Try doing an A/B with a track you know well to see how its high mid sounds on your system compared to one of your own tracks. The difference should give you a better idea of where you need to cut frequencies. thumbsup

Your probably right...it is the room i am in...its setup like this

----------------

   STATION

-----------------

so i am pretty much in a long hallway room. i probably should do an a/b comparison too to get the right eq settings...

now, the second question is...does someone have a great reference clip ? im not talking an mp3 download, or even any mp3 for that matter...I find mastering techniques differ alot from the stuff ive been hearing...not to put blame on any producers, i just find SUCH a difference between most tracks. frequencies and in volume...its hard to make a good comparison with that much of a difference, right ? (call me on it if im wrong) i could record a record down, but even then its not quite an accurate response right ? levels could be different still...does someone have a normalized track reference file is basically what im asking i guess.

something with a good solid beat, and full mid-hi range, basically at max for what you should be using...i know every track is different...but same guidelines apply no ?

Changes, depending on time of day. generally, i turn it up until the bass goes from thud to woof.

may be the problem... mixing too loud can throw out the bass/midrange balance in a bad room. the thud/woof may be from the room not the speakers, so you're adding in too much midrange to compensate.

try mixing without the kick and bass and then add them last...

good tip smile thanks m8...so will ergo fix this sort of problem you think ? I mean im starting to really get good clean sounds in my environment...its just translating them into new systems thats my problem.

may do... depends a lot on the room and speakers to be honest. Ergo only does fequencies up to 500hz.

One thing to try is pan your mix to one speaker and see how the balance is.

hmm...i wonder...if i go clinically insane, can i bring my gear with me ? king

and i was considering ARC however im not too thrilled on the idea of having it on my VST chain. Id probably do something silly like leave it on when rendering and then wow...track sounds great here...but rubbish on anything else...id be looking for more of a set and forget kinda product...especially if all it does is eq. I heard its ERGO is giving IK a run for its money...they cost about the same, and the KRK is supposed to do lots more...plus...you can bring ERGO with you if moving to different setups...you just flash the unit with the systems configuration...
