Mix CD's, in my opinion, should always be about trying to do something a little outside the box and just that little bit different to the norm. Whether in the musical content, or the actual arrangement and programming of the mix itself.
That is what I have tried to combine with these mixes, the use of perfect track selection coupled with creative and inventive mixing, to create something that is well, as per the title, different.
Combining a range of house, techno, progressive, disco, breaks, electronica and even dubstep, the compilation is journey through what I consider to be some of the more interesting, exciting and forward thinking sounds, ideas and genres in electronic music today.
Containing a handful of my own edits, I am able to be just that little bit more creative with how I put the pieces of the puzzle together, shaping something more personal and involving than just a typical DJ Mix.
I also make use of a lot of creative and layered mixing, and while this can often lead to a jumble of noise and lack of cohesion, when done right, creates atmosphere and excitement within the mix. The ability to pick and choose different elements from different tracks and to then bring them together in one cohesive system. Some tracks will play for only a brief moment, while others will play out in their entirety.
The combination of all these factors, result in a mix that is new, quirky, forward thinking and different to listen to no matter where the listener is, what time of day it is or how they are feeling.
