Clean install as in you installed XP to a freshly created and formatted partition having deleted the previous partition/s.

Make sure you have the graphics card drivers installed.

If you cant figure out the name of your card then download a program called Everest, it will list all of the components in your machine and link you to the manufacturers websites so you can find the drivers. It will also give you all the running temps of your CPU, GPU etc. Very usefull little app. You could also try using Driver Genius, it will scan your machine and download the drivers for you.

Hi Mate,

No i didn't delete the partition, didn't know i needed too.
I think it said 3 partitions or something or create a new one.

Silly question, how do i know what partition the old one was? I didn't install windows on it to start with.

I'll probably see that when i look at the list again.

Thats helpful,i might have to re-install.Its seemed fine for REason 3.0 last night.Hours of fun, know probs so..

Anyway i'll re-install it again on Sunday and see what happens.

Cheers thumbsup

Sky broadband disc has always been a piece of shit. You don't need it to set Sky bb up.

Just had a common sense thought while out getting lunch. What if that fucked it up?? uhoh

I'll try uninstalling that, aswell, haven't because net works, but if not properly then could well be that couldn't it.

I know never installed right since i had it years ago laughing

Not sure if anyone mentioned system restore - I mentioned repair install. When windows first loads it uses the generic graphics drivers for windows which will only go to low res. Shouldn't cause Internet Explorer to lock up though - that's the only thing that's causing the lock up right?

If you think it may be the graphics drivers you've since installed try to install them again.

Yeh sorry,i'll try that aswell. It might be this partition thing.Never done that before.

No i wouldn't have thought so.
Yeh seems to be,played Reason for 3 hours last night, not a problem, thank god yawn, so hopefully just the internet looking

Did you install from the BIOS(clean install) or did you install from the desktop?

Have you installed all of the drivers?
Open Control Panel > Sytem > Hardware > Device Manager. Any question marks in there?

Did you use a genuine XP install disk and if not then try burning the XP image to disk again but do it at the lowest speed possible this time.

 Yes its legit copy.

As far as i know i've done all the drivers that came on a disk with the motherboard.

I just put the XP disc in bootup and pressed any key to boot of cd,and then just re-installed windows.

 I looked for the ? marks,only on a USB port,which doesn't matter.

I have a feeling its probably a driver issue as can't seem to get higher than 1024 x 860 on 32 BIT graphics card.
I'll have to look at the drivers, cheers.

System restore won't do zip i wouldn't have thought as i installed Windows from scratch would it?? I'll have a look.

Thanks for advice thumbsup

It could be an addon running in Internet Explorer that's causing it to crash.

Take a look at this article and try disabling some/all of your addons and see how you get on.

I would certainly suggest that you do back up everything and delete ALL of the partitions on the drive and start from scratch. Maybe create one partition for your operating sysytem and another for storage, that way if you run into problems again all of your data is safe on the storage partition allowing you to quickly delete and re create the OS partition if the need arises again.

If you have trouble getting all your data off the drive while using the installed XP then download an Ubuntu Live Disk and boot from that, it will have the tools you need to backup any data you need to retrieve. Infact it would be a good idea to do that anyway because if there is hardware problems then you will see similar errors while in the linux live environment but if everything runs smoothly then its almost definately an issue with your XP install.

I'd personally NEVER use internet explorer anyway and it's most likely that the installation of windows is fine....just IE being shit.
