Ableton 4

Ok I'm Trying to import a mp3 into Ableton but i can't seem to do it and it's doing my head in. I'v just got it and i want to remix a tune in Ableton. So i just need to now how do i import songs into Ableton. Cheers Dave

import the entire tune?  open the browser on the left, choose one of the folder icons, click on the MP3 and drag it into an empty audio track slot

 

Ableton does not, and probably never will, support MP3's.

This has been requested many times on the Ableton forums and it always gets a negative. You'll have to convert to WAV if you want to use it. Cool Edit Pro 2 can batch convert WAV's, as many as you like in one go

I always use .wavs anyway.. but thought you could do mp3's as well..

anyway, decoding mp3s would be a processor drain, and of inherently worse sonic quality.

yeah, same in reason - no mp3s.  Last thing you want to deal with when your tune is choking for CPU power is having to decode all your samples on the fly. 

There's a few reasons why not, one which has already been mentioned, processor drain when decoding. I think they also said that it would be very hard to get the warp engine to work properly with MP3's and that Ableton is a pro audio application so WAV should be the way to go.
