I have never used android or the Apple os. Not sure which one to get ? Know the samsung on paper is a better spec phone.

Thoughts please?

The iPhone people will say the iPhone and the Android people will say Android. Both will argue their phone/OS is better which won't really get you anywhere smile

the S2 is better spec'd and more open than the Iphone4 straight out of the box without pissing about with it. therefore I say S2.

I have one and it rocks.

Look up the main differences between the software on both phones. Hardware wise the S2 is better than the iPhone 4 but that counts for nothing if you don't like the OS. I am an android fan or should I say, "not an apple fan" so obviously the galaxy for me smile

I agree with matt, I have iPhone 4 and it's the best phone in the world, people with galaxy will disagree. Go to the shop and try them both.

WTF kind of reason is that?looking

I can't recommend the SGS2 highly enough, but then again I'm not exactly an Apple fan at the best of times...

There isn't much customisation on the iPhone, so make sure you like the user interface, where as on the samsung you can custom the shit out of it. I really love the look and feel of apple stuff so I don't really care about that stuff.

people say they are not an apple fan, but I am. I have an Imac and love osx, but when it comes to mobile the spec of the S2 is far better then the Iphone 4. Im sure both OS's have their own pros and cons, but I've found android to be superb. I love how everything on it is customizeable.

I've had a few friends recently who've swapped from iphone 4 to the S2, and none have regretted it.

Hardware specs mean nothing if the OS doesn't take full advantage of it, wouldn't get too caught up in the dual core/loads of RAM rubbish as it doesn't always mean that your phone will be that much quicker, make sure you test them out and see real world performance results.

If I were to get an Android phone, I'd definitely get an HTC. The Samsung's just feel like shit to me, light, flimsy and plasticky. The HTC's feel solid as a rock in the hand thumbsup

Yeah, but you're stuck with sense and a locked bootloader then... Samsung have been amazingly open with the modding community with the SGS2.

Stuck Cognition rom on mine and it gets rid of some of the main annoyances of the SGS2 which you otherwise can't do anything about, and adds some sweet new things (button to record calls, take a picture with volume down, no battery full notification etc). If you get a HTC phone, you're pretty much stuck with the stock rom.

Ah ok, didn't realise that.

I know everyone is wetting themselves about Samsung at the moment, but I just can't get past the fact that their hardware feels like shit. If I'm going to drop serious cash on a phone, I want it to feel expensive, not like a cheap plastic toy.

Fair play, some resonable points being made in a thread like this for a change. Tom - I think HTC have stated they are allowing their bootloader to be unlocked from the Sensation onwards. I really like Sense as well, I think its the best front end

Android wise, the Nexus Prime is one to look out for.

HTC Location is the feature I want the most on future HTC phones. It means I could load all the ROUTE66(TomTom) maps and be able to use it offline with minimal network connection. I have used TomTom maps on iOS before and was very impressed with it. Just waiting for it to be ported over to Android platform and for ROUTE66 to add its final touches.

The Chinese's got a heads up on iphone 5 handset. They're already selling cases for it laughing- http://www.go.vn/news/604-27641/ngoi-nha-so/vo-gia-re-cho-iphone-5-duoc-ban-o-trung-quoc.htm

Yeah I think im going to swap my Desire HD for the Nexus Prime when it is released.

I used Locations quite a bit of my recent 3 month trip. It was quite good but the GPS signal always seems to be lacking when using Locations in cities which was a bit of a pain. It did stop it becoming usefull at some points which was a shame

Yeah each GPS service has quirks of each own.  Offline TomTom maps is still the best!

On Android you can store maps offline as well.. Although you select a 10km square to store offline, so its handy if you are visiting a city so not like tomtom where you have everything stored offline. I'd rather use google maps which is free than pay tons of money for tomtom..

google maps can be fairly average. i once sent my g/f a place mark so she could find us. it sent her 30km out of the way so she got to see the scenic route (via an unnecessary ferry).

i have tomtom on my iphone. yeah its not cheap but its a hell of a lot cheaper than having a separate device with the same software.
