after talking advice on the legallities of resinging acapellas we've scrapped that and gone for original stuff only. gonna take some time to compile it all, samplings hard work!
Having a singer is great, working the singer is another thing...lol, I was never really any good 'working' a singer. watched a professional vocal engineer at work and it blew me away....way above my engineering capabilities. But great engineering knowledge if you get it right. And this isnt down to the tools you have but the actual skill.
I had many occasions when i had to have a singer in... one was for burning up, but to be honest, it never ever sounded the same as the sample even though the singer was fantastic sounding... so i mixed it 50/50 and that worked... I had to get a singer as it was about to be pulled from the shelves...but still had to pay a 1/3 to the actual lyricist...so yes, a legal wrangle....but, today with dance music... I would use the sample and not care about anything legal.... its hardly gonna make the top 40 earning a large royalty.... and if it did, you then make a deal with the original artist. I had to do it with Burning up due to that fact it was mainstream, done at PWL and charted....so they kicked up a fuss.
So, all in all i would still get your singer to do some classics....maybe rethink the selling strategy
