How fast did music get in Trade in its heyday?
I never got to go but I hear tales of it getting crazy fast. Then to back it up on loads of tracklistings and peoples memories of Trade, and TDV cds etc you see things like Eine Kleine, Special Brew etc. Proper nice quick tracks.
Were these tracks played pitched down or did Trade, as I hear, get proper fast at the end of the morn. If so, how fast?evil

naaa twist got pretty hard towards the end back in the day. Toned down quite a bit from what i read. Some were moaning that its 10-15 bpm slower than what it should be.

I think Wardman used to get pretty quick towards the end. That's when you want it quick though. violent

I started going from about 96. the music used to build up throughout the morning and take you on an all- mighty journey, used to be pretty banging party Especially from TDV, Ian M and EJ Doubell.
When trade was in full throttle, especially at Turnmills, there was no place like it. love

How quick do you think by the laat couple of hours Kaye? 160+ ? Sorry, not obssessed by BPM of hard house lol Am just curious as, as I say, some of the tracks I hear mentioned at way passed 155BPM on zero% pitch, so it must have been cranking by the end of the morn laughlaugh

Lol I'd say some of them yes, it must have been pretty fast, 155ish. Some of Ian M's sets were brutal, real head down arse up.

Brilliant lol smile Gaz> I have a mixmag from about 1999ish where Ian M had been on after Fergie at Sundissential North, and they labelled him "+8 technichian" as I believe he had maxed Are you All Ready haha That was Sundis. Can only imagine what Trade was like with some of those Noom, Bonzai etc tracks around at that time

It was brilliant Goose, I loved it so much. Was hooked the first time I went. No other club has stirred so many emotions and memories for me. I was gutted I couldn't go to the anniversary this year. I know things have changed and some of it not for the better, but it still would have been good.

In the early years from 91-93 the music used to be a lot harder and could get very fast, some mornings you would want the next DJ to come on because it would just sound like noise, stuff like mescaline - we have arrived. munted

Daz, Trevor and Smoking Joe got replaced by Steve Thomas, Tony De vit and Ian M in 93. The music started to get a lot harder/faster around the middle of TDV's set around 9am, Ian M's set was always the hardest and fastest, probably reaching 160. It wasn't all just hard house back in those days, they used to play a lot of german techno and hard trance, and a lot of DJ Edge and Rabbit City, which could get quite fast. When Tall Paul came on at 11.30 it would slow down again, he used to play a lot of cheesy house stuff like the Bucketheads, indica, etc.

In 96 Tall Paul left and Glen Miller did the last set for a while, then Pete Wardman took his place in 97 he would keep the tempo up after Ian M's set and did play quite hard.

After 98 I didn't go as much but when I did go I don't remember it getting as hard as in the early years. The energy in that club was like no other club I've been to, it made every other club look a bit lame, but it wasn't just down to the speed of the BPMs.thumbsup

Cheers for that mate. V interesting smile I know it wasnt all down to BPMs (I know I probably sound obssessed lol)thumbsup Its just something that has always made me curious, but for some reason never actually asked the question to people who went. king This thread has got me more curious though, as names of some tracks have started to apear lol (Mescaline). Keep them coming please people.......fancy putting a mix together of Trade anthems when I have enough (Using the BPM/tracks/night progression info I get off here). Not the standard run of the mill tracks though.......the more b side label type classicdunce

I dont think it was pushing 160bpm.. a lot of the tracks from back then were made a bit slower anyway.. Loads around 145..

I remember Gonzalo playing a very hard & fast set once, playing loads of Telica records. Not your average hh, more european sounding stuff.

The EJ Doubell one sounds like it's the trade 12th birthday give away cd. It's a good cd but not hard like Flash is saying. If you want the harder edge ones I'd look out for Trade vol 1 mixed by TDV, Trade Vol 2, Trade Global Grooves mixed by TDV. The 3 Fist CD'S especially 2 and for Telica stuff look out for Antiworld mixed by e-303, and Bitter & Twisted mixed by Mrs Wood & Blu Peter.

The BPMs would peak with Ian M and TDV. The job of the last DJ, i.e Tall Paul or Wardman was to make things a bit more uplifting and brighter than the previous hours. Wardman would've done it differently than Tall Paul though.

It was good - Farley was set of the night for me. Shame you couldn't make it.

Yes, heard he was good.
Yes, it was a shame, but my health had to come first. Trade takes no prisonors if you're not firing on all cylinders.

I posted that EJ Doubell mix on here with tracky a while back, it's in the sticky Classics HH Mixes thread in the DJ Mixes section. It's good, lots of classics, but its the not the harder sound of Trade. thumbsup

I don't think it was that planned out TBH, Tall Paul got given a slot a Trade as a favour - his Dad was the owner of Turnmills.
