Weirdo - the best hard dance producer ever?

I know I probably talk about this time and time again, but I've been listening to Weirdo's two albums today and he really was/is LEAGUES ahead of everyone else. I don't know whether it's just me but his tunes just resonate so well - the melodies/sounds/synths etc are all spot on, and all of these tunes were made probably about 10 years ago! BK & Sentience et al made the scene what it is, but in terms of technical / musical ability Weirdo really was the don.

Particularly relevant given all the stuff about 'the scene' and 'the state of the music' at the moment - just take it back to basics!

He was definitely one of the best.

Evidently he paid attention during music lessons at school.

Kind of Wierd(o) but i didnt dig his stuff back when it was coming out, never been a huge fan of Tinrib either to be honest. Too much acid. But when my taste changed when Glaz/Stevens etc went melodic his stuff stood out a mile and his ideas were definatly forward thinking. Best ever producer though?? No. IMO.

Looking back I think Weirdo/Tinrib probably was the best producer of his generation. His music still blows my mind now, his arrangements, crisp quality and of course his originality I wh made him different, but not always popular at the time

he was awesome - such a shame that both him and Tinrib stopped producing

this mix reminded me how bloody good his tunes are

Bit more than just learning the sound, sounds wise, they just heavily distorted and filtered trance patches.
Its more about what goes off in his head to write those tunes, Photic Zone and Curva Peligrosa are fucking mad, take you on a journey, and very dark, have an almost desolate, all hope is gone sort of feel to em.  evilevilevil
Main riff in Mystery Tour is another of me faves
Sure I read he's a classically trained cello player or something similar so would obviously help with the complex riffs and making sure it all sounds right, even tho some of them seem in a strange key.
Deffo my fave producer ever, miss his stuff kingking
Proud to say I have the full Tinrib collection, (including all limited piccie discs) and will never sell em smile

Same here Gaz.There were a few tinribs that I bought but most of them just did not appeal to me.Weirdo is certainly a very talented harddance producer but best ever is a bit of a long shot IMO.What about Paul King,Paul Janes, Chris C, Nik Denton,  Simon Parkes etc

This dude is defo one of the top dogs for harder stuff, his production is flawless, even now it sounds crisper than everything else IMO!

Weirdo defo in my top 3 of hard producers, i'm not giving the order of the 3 tho, that's too much thinking involved xD

Also a really nice bloke smile

Weird's stuff really grabbed me when I first started my clubbibng career, around '98.  I used to play Curva Peligrosa and Rock the House from the I'm in Touch with your World album over and over again thumbsup

Is he producing anything at the moment?

yep - apart from a couple of 'fillers'(which would still be great if not compared to his best tunes) he's probably the most consistently good producer i can think of that's been linked to this scene. i loved the way that his tracks would make you think they couldn't take you any higher and then they go the extra mile. jaw droppingly good.

by this scene i'm meaning the areas where HT, NRG and acid overlap (which i guess is quite specific). i can see why he's not getting as much of a look in by those who are into the more house oriented HH. i dig weirdo for his consistency. maybe it would be different if he had a larger output but i feel most of the other names mentioned in this thread don't have the consistency down (except maybe Janes' and Parkeseys anthems). i think for the time the tunes came out there was a real attention to detail that a lot of other producers didn't have nailed (those that did i feel were on a much more minimal tip than the 'tinribised' stuff)

One of the producers I always respected a lot. The musicality and originality of the arrangments in his stuff was miles beyond what anyone else did in hard house. I know a Plaice was my favourite - used to absolutely hammer that tune, still gives me goosebumps now!

I don't know if I just didn't like his sound or whatever back in the late 90's/00's but I never bought a single Weirdo track (yet I had a load of Tinrib records) eeek

Yet since this thread came up, I went on the net for a listen and ended up buying a few Weirdo tunes and can't believe I missed or disregarded these back then!

I have to say though I agree with Paul. For me, I know A Plaice is fucking brilliant and the best out the bunch for me. thumbsup

But I did also like Beyond, We Decide, Get On The Floor, Ghost Stick thumbsup

I think i'd have to be in a club to appreciate just how good his tunes really are for the "journey" type feel etc.

There are not many tracks that I can still remember the first time I heard them being played, but I can clearly remember the first time I heard Curva Peligrosa... I was outside the room it was being played in and just ran in and was like what the fuck is this! It was like someone just switched the lights on, I dont think my brain had even registered the track before it

People have mentioned the crispness of his productions but I have to wonder how much of that was down to Jon Bell to be honest, but his chord progressions etc were amazing, definitely one of the best producers but I think it would be hard to say he is THE best to be fair
