I used to be but I do think its a bit dated and doesn't suit the music that much unless done really well.

Given that. Some Djs do it really well. I still love Pete Monsoon's scratching even tho he plays cheese.. heres a sample...

Hate it, just sounds cheap and nasty over a hard house set even when illogik does it, it just doesnt do anything good towards the set...

JM (Crave) used to do it over techno and it sounded amazing, especially hip hop samples. I been known to do a little bit myself I think its another tool for a dj to use, and really seperates the men from the boys.

hated that...sorta disrespectful of the tune. halliwell used to be annoying as fck with his ott scratching would be like stfu and let the tune play...same with his ott fx
but yeh never really liked scratching over hh.

Depends who is doing it.Ilogik and rodi style are the only hardhouse DJ's that I have heard do it well. One of my friends is a hardcore dj and was taught by dj sy to scratch so suffice to say he is seriously good at scratching

yeah with 2 sounds quite close im guessing, he does a little scribble too. not much fader action. you can do it dead easy with the transform on the djm's, sounds very similar.

I think it's one of those things that can really help separate yourself from other DJs.  I think had I not scratched I would probably not have gotten to where I am today.  With that being said though, I scratch alot less than I used to.  I think I abused it alot in the beginning it's what gets u noticed smile  I personally think as a transitional tool during the sections where a track is building into the breakdown or "blending time" it can really work to inject a little bit more pace and energy into the set.

And ilogik is wicked, his sundissential CD way back was one of those "wow" moments that made me want to "do that wikki wikki thing" over hard house.  Legend.

Rodi's about the best I've heard but 4 to the floor beats aren't really conducive to creative timing/scratch patterns IMO, it's all a bit simple and repetitive.

That thumbsup the DMC championship scratching using hiphop and parts of mashup tools are incredible, nothing to do with mixing in its own right just damn good non stop skill all the way through!

Ive watched that video so many times over the years. Its epic. Thats REAL scratching. All this looping a scratch sample with transform effects n a phaser over the top for good measure is bullshit. Any chump can do that. If you're using cdjs to scratch properly then fair play, nothing wrong with that. Just pisses me off when u get the likes of Haliwell and Zabiela doing all that looping bollocks and calling it "scratching".

If it sounds annoying, the dj isn't up to it. Scratching sounds spectacular over any music when done by a true turntablist.

Ha thats weird as fuck,at a house party about3-4 years ago myself & afew mates watched your video over & over again after hearing Halliwell scratching over Black Dogs which got me started on doing it,Ive seen Halliwell about 6-7 times & the only time I seen him scratch other than on the CD's that I enjoyed was the first time I seen him in the Raddison in Galway over " What You Got For me ",he stopped for a min, mixed in the Dawn & started again again while the two were mixing TBH it was unreal I taught.Every other time he was locked or just over doing it or whacked or whatever.

Had Rodi & Ilogik over & they wipe the floor with everyone & only two I've proper enjoyed doing it live, hear Claire Browne is unreal at it - Have a Promo mix from her I gave out last Friday at our gig sadly no scratching but by god that girl can mix,I'm sure i'll hear her live as we have her booked for the New Year.

Shite yeah forgot to mention Karl there - He's fairly handy at it too - Didn't used to like when he did few year back it but he's fair good at it now, doesn't over do it & it's not the same scratch over & over again, actually Jay Hatchel is a cracker at it now that I think of it,he doesn't do it much but he went mad playing the small room at Hedliners launch party & was well copped at what he was at,destroyed the place.Other than that I havent seen any Hard House Djs do it right.

Didn't Karl & John Kerrigan run a night yonks ago that was all about the scratching, went once, good tunes, got bored to tears of the scratching after about 10 minutes but that was say 6-7 years ago - Karl is a demon at it now & knows when to use it.

In saying that I'd say I wreck more people's heads than I please when I go at it.

Oh & Andy K,savage at it too.

Anyone know anyone else useful at it in HH?

Scrathin should be reserved for hip/hop & rap, the likes of Funk Master Flex is the greatest , and for primary school kids when they get fleas (yes i know they are not fleas but head lice, before anyone decideds to troll haha)but now i've said that and i bet i get trolled for saying that! so come on someone troll me! please? xD
