really like his kit & his drum patterns can be immense; just really burned out on dubstep; it's everywhere here in the states. currently suffering thru the moombathon invasion as all bandwagon bay area dubstep djs jump onto the next new trend. bleh

but yeah skrillex, can't fault the production

What is dubstep supposed to be anyway? And how do you dance to it?

If the only way to listen to it is to get off your tits, then I'm sure it will scare the hell out of you.

Some proper dubstep/grime tunes do sound amazing in a club if they have a decent system and sub. Most dubsteap is shit though so you need to know the decent underground events to go to.

Some of the dubstep nights at Fabric especially have been some of my best nights out. Dont think anyone there was bothered whether other people find it appealing or philosophise about it on the net.

What people again fail to understand is that dubstep is not a genre, its more of a description like 4/4, breakbeat, mdowntempo etc. saying I hate dubstep is like saying 4/4, or i hate downtempo. There are techno variants, dub, techyhouse, grimey etc

Its hard and dark and nasty music which has struck a mainstream chord. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Korns album is just a generic platform for others to build on anyway, first of many things to come from the many sub genres.

Honesty, I cant see how people can enjoy any of it. I understand that every genre has  few tracks that can appeal to anyone but so far I havent found one that I really liked as far as dubstep goes.

I really like some dubstep, mainly the stuff that sounds like slowed down jungle from the mid 90's but 85% of it is complete turd, especially stuff like Skrillex

As big as Pendulum. Seriously.

He'll almost certainly win the BBC Sound of 2012 poll next week and Warner will be falling over themselves to get an album out of him. I expect he'll start producing for more poppier artists too.

I love his sound personally but I can see why it would annoy people!

I'm pretty much the same, I think the main problem is I don't see the point of it. I've been to a couple of local nights that play it and it just comes across like the only point to it is a big dirty whacking bassline.

Over the past few years most dance music I've heard has been gradually becoming more bass-heavy and less and less about musicality, melodies and songs, dubstep just seems to be the ultimate expansion on that.

He has a pretty unique and extreme sound, so there are bound to be those that love and hate it. As an actual producer he is awesome, the production on his tracks are tight as fuck and because his sound is so unique, it has set off a plethora of wannabe's copying his style left right and centre. Personally I think some of his tracks are brilliant (reptile, kill everybody) and I love some of the sounds he creates (that monstrous 'ayy yhaaar') . But sometimes those synths that are really heavy in the mid-range that he uses do get on my tits a little.

I like some of his stuff, I wouldn't really call most of what he does dub step though, there's an extreme almost cartoony type of bass heavy music coming out of America which is more like some kind of Electro Metal in its heaviness and arrangement, a fact cemented by the fact that a lot of metal bands are jumping on the bandwagon atm.

dubstep is half the speed it should be and therefore can only 0.5 good at best. add to that, that it is all utterly shite (much like pendulum have been for the last 7 years Olly :P) then it should simply be put down like fidget.

I had the chance to see/heard him on december 30th alongside Deadmau5 here ine Quebec and I have to be honest.....It was AWFUL !!!!!    Oh my god, how do you dance on Dubstep ???   I could see young kids jumping in front of the stage..... and all of us, old school ravers (being 30 and over) were talking at the back of the room, waiting for Deadmau5 to play...

Didn't like taht at ALL !!!!      Ain't my cup of tea....sorry...they won't get me in their bandwagon...impossible to dance, all you can do is jump...reminds me old punk metal music.   Oh and yeah I even saw people trashing in front of the stage ???? and doing body surfing....pistols

Don't mind some of his stuff myself, not a huge fan though.

Incidentally, he played a hardstyle track in one of his sets recently, albeit slowed down a bit. The outrage that followed has convinced me of what you all have been trying to tell me for the past 6 years - 90% of hardstyle fans are retards laughing

really dont understand how people find it soo hard to "get" tbh, dupstep can be amazing music, just becuase you cant dance to it in the same style as hard dance, etc doesnt mean its crap, you dont get the same thing with dnb

The only thing dubstep has going for it is production value. I'm all for well produced music but only when the end product is worth it.... most dubstep has no groove or proper rhythm to it, or any real musicality for that matter.

Yeah you lot are right. I went into the Dubstep room at Beaverworks one this years NYE, and I have to say the music sounded fucking amazingly crisp, but you cannot dance to the shit. I was literally stood there with my hands by my side wondering what the fuck I should do with myself other than watch my two drugged up mates bounce all over the shop. I longed to go back into the rave room where it was playing some psy-acid nrg shit. frown

To be fair though, most hard house has little musical value as well? I've always been a big fan of hard house but surely you can see that apart from a few tracks with real composition value, (The Dawn etc) that it is just rhythmic noise?

thats true to some extent but at least it has a 4x4 bassline that you can dance to.I personally could happily just dance to a pumping bassline for hours.I remember Ian.M at insomniacz once and he played 3 vinyls in a row and none of them had breakdowns was just virtually raw pumping bass

Saw Skrillex at Brixton Academy this weekend before Shogun at Cable, both the set and the visuals were top drawer. Even peeps not into dance music couldnt get enough of it!

Dont know who considers him shit or not but hardcore dnb and dub heads who were with me also thought he completely killed it and the entire arena was heaving the entire time!

Skrillex more like shittex lol, heard a mix of his on radio 1 otherday whilst cruising, what i heard was 10minutes of mess tbh, mixed far to many tracks together in a short space of time , the basslines were ok, fair enough but all the tunes just sounded the same to me. Musically the mix didnt flow naturally, it cant if your mixing in and out every 2 minutes, just stands out to the ear to much. he seems abit over rated, probably use's ableton live to doctor his mix's anyway like all the other dubstep wannabe's who claim to be a dj yet never touched a real set of decks in there life. and apparently you dont dance to dubstep you sway wtf.
