Anything goes.../Hard-DubIf you're talking about old school gameplay, probably one of Treasure or Cave's bullet hell shooters (Ikaruga etc) in their traditional arcade modes... Makes you realise how shit your reactions are.
Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are both worth a mention for their bastard hardness, but are actually both quite manageable as long as you play them carefully and have a massive amount of patience... (I can't and don't!)

SpazzBubble Bobble!

I lost a whole Summer to that game!
Hardest games I found were Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy. Also, Mario the Lost Levels were bloody difficult.

Hard TranceI was a proper pro at arcade games, cant remember any that I liked that i didnt complete.
I was particularly good at Salamander, nemesis, scramble, ghosts & goblins, manic miner (and all the sequels), black tiger (fucking epic game), galaga, pacman etc
Never really got into early console gaming, was more into the computers.
I was best at 1942, could play that forever, had a mate who was equally good, and we could play two player all night of 10p, we had one in our local pub, and people used to pay for us to play so they could stand and watch lol.

the only reason the games mentioned were hard is because the controls were so shoddy, too sensitive or not sensitive enough.
...remember the original mario.

Most of the controls in those old games were built like that to make it hard. I don't think they were necessarily bad controls. Arcade games were supposed to be hard, otherwise they wouldn't make any money. A lot of early console games were just trying to replicate this.
These days most games are riddiculously easy or to make them "hard" they just change the amount of energy you and/or the enemies had.
The games back in the day, were HARD. Kids have got it too easy these days

Hard TranceThe best of them all.5 and 6 to add credits, 1 to start 1 player.
controls are cursor keys, space to jump and control to fire.

ToughIn reply toIn reply toStreet Fighter 4 in a Japanese arcade is pretty hardcore!
Thats one of the main reasons I went to Japan last year, to play some decent Street Fighter players. They were as hard as I was expecting

Did alright for myself though. Must have played 100 games.
You do know you can play Japanese players on xbox live.... Right?

Yeah I played a bit of SF4 online on the PS3 but its not the same. I love sitting in an Arcade playing someone opposite you. Also SF is super twich based and unless you have a perfect connection you are losing milliseconds across the internet which is the difference between winning and losing.
Also you don't get to choose who you play online.

Oh, and those three optional bosses at the end of Final Fantasy 7 were absolute cunts. That and those super fiends you could generate in FFX.
Ruby, Emerald and Ultima? I actually found em quite easy, but i was liek 15 when i had it n spent hours n hours n hours levelling up n such, dont think i could be arsed now.
FF X Was ridiculous for that. Unless u did the tonberry level up trick u could literally spend 100+ hours maxing out the sphere grid in order to take on pennance. Was playing X the other day n ending up smashing my only ps2 controller trying to do that fucking chocobo race to get Tidus' ultimate weapon

Fucking chocobos. I spent an entire day trying to breed a golden one in FF7 once. Managed it eventually.
I'd love to have the time to start and finish that game again in its entirety. You need to devote your life to it for a while though!!
Tell me about it. You get lost in it as well. Oh god uve made me wana play it now. I never did get round to playing that hardcore version i told u about on FB. Though i watched someone else do it n it got mental at the end. Hmmm, i swear i still got it in the garage and i do need a game to keep me ocupied over the weekend.....

I have a 200+ hr save game for FFX somewhere. I beat everything but wanted to max out everything and the "winning spheres off the eartheater in the monster arena to then transform into some other type of sphere" grind became too much. Gave it up. Also...blitz ball? Wank ball, more like.
FF8 tops the lot for me.

Were you going for the luck spheres with earth eater? Normally what people do it for. The ammount of power leveling required for that game is fucking insane! I just didnt have the patience.
FF8 is epic

Completed it again about 6 months ago n killed everything including omega for the first time (could never do it as a kid) Defo my second fav behind 7. Amazing game

Your taxes, my booze.Hardest modern arcade game is definitely super meat boy. check this fucking level out.
It took me about 40 minutes to do this one, probably the hardest level in the game.
As for oldies, probably stuff like altered beast, gradius, R-type etc. All the stuff that was designed purposefully impossible to keep getting your money from you at the arcade.

Jesus christ... Totally forgot about that game for some reason!
Such a tightly controlled little bastard of a game... If you you die, you've only ever got yourself to blame... And you'll die a fucking lot!!
This just reminded me that I need to check out "The Binding of Isaac" as well, it's supposed to be an absolute gem!

Haha, that video says it all really! Instead of uploading a video of the player breezing through it, they uploaded one of them repeatedly trying the same tiny level, then giving up after almost 8 minutes...

Driver 1 was so hard, I couldn't even pass the driving test to get to the first level so I never actually got to play the game.
That was piss easy once you knew what you were doing... The recent Driver SF game (great game btw) included that parking garage bit, was a great blast from the past doing it all over again!

Luck spheres, that's it, cheers! I'm totally at home with power levelling, but that *was* insane. 7 was my first FF experience, I borrowed a mate's PS at uni one night and played it for 8 hours straight off
