Spilled wine on my mates Mac Book?

We dried it immeditaly and left a heater next to in on low all night, any other ideas for sorting it? It wouldnt knock on this morn.

It was Ellis's. Wouldnt bother me but i have Snowbombing Fest to go to in April and Australia to save for, this just messes things up a bit, wont be going Snowbombing if it doesnt fix.

The problem is now it wont turn on, If it wasn't fully dry when you turned it on then it will have fried it the moment you turn the power on. I had the same thing with mine a couple of years back, But i left it in the airing cupboard for well over a week. No matter what happens, you'll have to get him a new one as wine goes all sticky and aweful after drying, So it'll fuck up the mac book inside anyway after time. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Daz.

Surely stuff like this is covered on house insurance? Ive seen people throw laptops down the stairs to claim for a new on.

First thing you should do whenever you spill any liquid on an electronic item is unplug the power supply and then the battery!!

Leaving the battery on is what kills it. Water/liquid is an electrical conductor and will cause mayhem in all sorts of areas.

Laptops are also very sensitive to static, so it doesn't look good I'm afraid.

You probably fucked it by trying to turn it on so soon. But anyway, you can try this;

1. Completely strip-disassemble the machine down to all the individual parts (motherboard, hard drive, processor etc).

3. Leave the parts for a few days in an airing cupboard til all the alcohol evaporates.

The above presupposes that you know how to disassemble a computer and b. that you haven't already fucked any components by turning it on.  I've personally fixed a laptop and a couple of Blackberries for various mates doing the above. The key is to use AT LEAST 90%+ isopropyl as anything containing more water will just do more damage.

Hopefully it will work Daz, my brother dropped his Blackberry down the toilet and then tried to turn it on for a good few hours, even plugged it into the mains dripping wet and we managed to save it (although it needed a new battery).

This.  Or if your local hardware or electronics store sells some type of electrical contact cleaning agent use that as well.  They disperse any fluid then self dry and leave no residue.  The 1 we use at work is called Contact Cleaner. 

Good quality Australian Shiraz is fine to spill on any electronics.

Dealt with a lot of fluid damaged electricals...... Battery-ran are the worst (Li-ion) as they can short and damage components... sometimes the battery dies too but this can be replaced.

It also depends on the liquid - Water is easily mopped up - Its always usually better to totally strip down the item and dab dry... otherwise corrosion WILL set in over time...and this will decay any electrical connections (especially copper board!) - I had this with a water damaged Macbook..... it wasnt opened after damage, fried some components but i now have it up and running (but wont charge the battery anymore)

as for sticky liquid, get it mopped up fast and then use damp cloth, cotton buds and alcohol to remove it.

If it gets on the keyboard and between the membrane then the keyboard is/will be knackered - replace.

If it gets onto speaker cones...unless plastic.. they will decay and go mouldy.

Connections within the laptop will also decay unless cleaned......if they are gold then they will be ok...but still detach, clean then reattach.

Claim on home insurance.
