um, a dj is someone who plays music... you dont have to be able to play ALL instruments to be in a band do you?

Scratching is such a piddly part of hard house/NRG/Techno/Acid/Etc etc. Am sure most people on this board are purists of mixing technique and couldnt give two hoots about scrathcing!! will hire a DMC video if i want to see that!!

Christ man, if you honestly believe that you have to scratch to be a DJ you need to go and get your head checked out. I've won 2 DJ competitions against a variety of DJs, including turntablists, playing House and Techno - go figure, I don't scratch and I don't need to scratch, you've just been fed Mixmag propoganda that Eddie Halliwell is the best thing since sliced bread, he can do one scratch and thats it, his programming is among the worst in the industry, anyone with any sort of sense knows that he is extremely average...

Since when have either of the Tidy Boys scratched during a set??  Cant say I have ever heard them do it...

a) Being able to rub vinyl back against the needle while alternating the crossfader against the resulting noise DOES NOT guarentee you victory in DJ comps against people that can actually mix properley.
b) ARE YOUR SERIOUS ABOUT FAT LAD FROM THE TIDY BOYS???? never heard him scratch in 5 years of seeing them play.
c) Chris H has the nail on the head. If youre learning to scratch like Eddie i wouldnt bother, a simple crab, done reptitively over a tune, may have bought him novelty value but it wont work again!! stick to learning to mix effectively mate.
