Christ man, if you honestly believe that you have to scratch to be a DJ you need to go and get your head checked out. I've won 2 DJ competitions against a variety of DJs, including turntablists, playing House and Techno - go figure, I don't scratch and I don't need to scratch, you've just been fed Mixmag propoganda that Eddie Halliwell is the best thing since sliced bread, he can do one scratch and thats it, his programming is among the worst in the industry, anyone with any sort of sense knows that he is extremely average...
i have 3 things to say to this comment:
1. turntablism is alot more difficult than beatmatching and mixing, and turntablists are highly underrated
2. if you beat a turntablist in competition using beatmatching and mixing skills, then whoever threw this competition deserves a slap... you shouldnt even be competing against someone from a completely different category
3. anyone ever hear of Dj Swamp? he was Beck's dj (you know "im a loser babaaaay, so why dont you kill meeee") and is a turntablist GENIUS.
all that being said, im not a turntablist, i beatmatch, mix, cut, and add in, however i do admire good turntablists for choosing the more difficult, less famous road
Of course it is

Where did I say that it isn't?
Local DJ comps aren't structured like that, anyone can enter and you're judged accordingly, just because the turntablists weren't particularly good in the 2 comps that I won doesn't really mean anything.
Invisible Scratch Pilkz - nuff said

i was sort of making a general statement, not really directed at you with that first comment, cuz it just seems that many in this thread act like its just another way to use tables.
i understand your point on the local competitions thing, i just think that EDM battles and straight up turntablist battles should be seperate. crossing the boundaries in a competition only comes down to wether the crowd likes edm more or turntablist skills more (its just more fair that way)
i know about the Invisible Scratch Piklz, Qbert came from that crew. Swamp in my opinion is better, mostly because of his style and structuring skills. i mean who else have you ever heard of breaking the record over his head and doing sick scratching with a tiny piece of it, even making his own beats from a record shard. i dunno, Qbert may be more technical but Swamp has my vote
