In reply to When I'm playing out I have small chunks of tunes I know work well together, but otherwise read the crowd and go with what's doing it for them 
When I record I plan my sets carefully, cause that is going to be listened to over and over, and there is no 'crowd' to react to, so you might as well show how well you can progress a set
