If I or someone starts a free plug-in thread (only freeware/donation ware plug-ins only NO warez or cracks allowed) would anyone be interested? Would it be possible to get more than one or two people contributing to it as well?


Also, if one was started should there be one thread for PC and one thread for Mac plug-ins or should be be consolidated into one thread?

That's a good idea. Maybe put both platforms into one thread, just to make things simpler....The Mac one would slip off the page in a matter of days too.

Coldfire Software's DistBit is a recently-completed VST damage processor. it was inspired by the Scream4 unit from Propellerhead Software's Reason. It consists of a pair of filters and a pair of multi-mode distortion units. Each unit is capable of 8 different kinds of distortion, and you can set up the overall signal routing however you want, making the DistBit a vesatile unit. Version 1.1 adds several nice MIDI features. Comes with 64 presets, freeware. Made with SynthEdit, but don't let that stop you from trying it out.

Voxengo Boogex


Boogex is a free guitar amplifier plug-in with a variety of sound shaping features.

Features:

- Emphasis and Cut Filters. These are used to shape the sound of an amplifier.
- Pre-filter. Used to filter the incoming guitar signal. This is usually useful if the pickups on the guitar are too boomy or too crisp.
- Amplifier. This part is usually represented by a single Drive knob on actual guitar combos. The concept has been refined in Boogex and it is possible to get very different overdrive tones using four knobs. The Tone knob adjusts the character of distortion (or selects 'channel' like in some guitar combos - from clean to overdriven). With low tone value you will get a mild distortion, while with higher tone values distortion will be heavier. Dynamics adjusts the dynamic response of the amplifier - its effect is most evident with low Phase parameter values. The Phase parameter adjusts the overdrive performance - it is possible to fine-tune harmonical structure of the overdrive - for example if you hear too much discord tuning the Phase parameter may help. In some cases Phase also works as a mic displacement control - you can get different degrees of tone with it.
- Speaker cabinet impulse response selects which speaker cabinet model (and mic) to use. Loads WAV or AIFF audio files.
- Processing latency is very modest - 96 samples (2.1 ms at 44.1kHz).
- Several example factory presets are included.

Basslane is a simple, yet very handy little utility to control the stereo field of lower frequencies in your audio material.

What is this useful for?

--Regain tightness in the bottom of your mix by preventing kick drums and bass lines flying around all over the stereo field.

--Drumtracks mixed from multiple sources, or processed with delay, reverb etc will often just sound confusing if the kickdrum isn't centered. Just drop Basslane on the track.

--Experiment with effects on various tracks without losing definition and focus in the bass region.

Karnage



Karnage is the result of a collaboration between Krakli Software and Kriminal.

This synth is designed to make hard and nasty lead and bass sounds that will cut thru any mix, but can do a lot more besides. This synth is not for the faint hearted. You have been warned!

Features:

-Two oscillators with width (fatness setting) and wave-shape control, a sub oscillator/white noise oscillator mixable with a level control.
-24db/12db Filter modulated by a dedicated envelope, velocity, and up to 2 LFOs.
-A dedicated ring modulation section that can use keyboard tracking, velocity, envelope, and up to 2 LFOs for modulation of Ring Freq.
-Amp section where amplitude can be modulated by velocity and a dedicated envelope - with it's own built-in compressor. Plus Velocity control of Amp and Filter ADSR Decay.
-A performance section that has Poly-Mono switch, Glide, Glissando and retrigger switches with Time control on the glide. Glide can be routed to OSC1, OSC2 or Both.
-A dedicated distortion unit which uses pre and post filtering (it is this which can give Karnage its unique sound). The modulation (LFO1 or LFO2) is of the pre-post cutoff but the types of filters are set by the shape control so all sorts of effects are possible from a phasing type of modulation to a vocally formant shifting effect, (talk-box effect).
-Two LFOs, whose rate is controlled manually or by host tempo. Destinations are Filter, Ring Modulation and Distortion for both LFOs and you can apply each LFO to more than one destination at once. The LFOs also have MIDI Trigger On/Off (Gate).
-Full set of 128 presets by a variety of respected patch-makers.
