Just got SX3 and seemt to have a wierd MIDI delay when recording softsynths?

Im using an Evolution MK-461C Controller - USB2
Steinberg 24/96 soundcard (ADAT to Yamaha 03D digital desk) - RME Drivers XP
AMD 2ghz PC

Playing the synth is fine...no latency, even when recording its fine.....playback is a different matter, the notes that have been recorded are delayed?

I need to fix this problem as its doing my head in....I dont need a quick fix by setting the midi delay but know there must be a setting ive overlooked?

One forum suggested i set the MIDI to emulated by deleting a file within the midi folder within the Cubase install folders??? but that particular file isnt there...only the emulated one?

HELP!

Cheers guys!

Sounds like the soundcard has the wrong setting to be honest. Emulated is within the Devices menu from what I remember, you need to un-tick or delete that from the menu. I think that only duplictaes what your midi ins/outs are as anyway & with them activated it records duplictae notes when playing in live.

Ahhh just read it's on playback not softsynth recording.... Hmmm must be something to do with the Midi set up then. In Logic you have a compensation setting to roll back or forward so that your hardware is in time as a full output setting. Is PDC activated?

I will have a look mate...cheers!

Im now new to SX3 so there are a lot of changes since VST5 and getting to know the menus again!

I know all this will slow me down initially...but hopefully not for long biggrin

do you run the internet on the pc you are usein to make music ????

if you are take internet of and it might work , because the spywear on your pc fook's up all your timeing i had the same prob , .....

No, i use different PC's for different jobs.

But, i do have it connected to other PC's via LAN.....and have Norton Antivirus installed, but, I switch both of these of when producing music.

I dont have any spyware, viruses or adware on any of my PC's.

I will however admit that my SX3 IS 'extended' trialware...if u know what i mean?!

I WILL be purchasing it when i get the hang of it and im happy its what i need to upgrade to.

Music Style does my rig look big in this?

my personal experience of midiman 8x8 has been horrible. Digital Village in Cambridge gave me 3 different units and they just wouldn't install properly. They even tested themselves and agreed

They ended up giving me an Emagic AMT8 which instaleld like a dream and works like a dream and if u use Logic, it is fully compatable so u should be better off

No disrespect to Midiman. I had one of their 1x1 and a 2x2 at one point which were fine. I dont think they tested the 8x8 with xp properly although could have been a dodgy batch, who knows but the AMT8 thumbsup

I had a mate who knew the technical guy in Midiman....he had to send me new ROM chips to install...It works fine now. biggrin

Back to the Midi delay i now have........Its back!?

But i found the compensation menu....and giving it a 'trial and error' go!

I had a bash on Logic.....Liked logic but after 13years+ on Cubase i think i might be better off sticking with it now.

Logic is for the Mac really now and i aint going back to Mac......one expensie i can do without at the moment.

Music is a hobby now...not a career so money is limited for music equipment Purchase.

Cheers!

a Cure?

Well, it seems to work!

I have two interfaces hooked up to the PC via USB -

Edirol audio Capture UA-20
Evolutiuon MK-461C USB Midi Keyboard/controller

My Main PCI Sound Card is a Steinberg 2496 running RME drivers and Connected Purely via ADAT optical to my Yamaha O3D Desk.

Im running Windows XP Pro SP2 with Cubase SX 3.11.

I have the Net connected by LAN and run norton Systemworks 2005 - all get disabled when working in Audio!

PROBLEM:

No latency in Audio or MIDI when playing from the USB Keyboard....but when put into record the notes, when playing back are nearly a few beats out!?

This isnt a playback Latency but more of a delayed placement of the actual notes?

I have searched and search the net for answers with many having this problem but none with a cure.......until one,

Setting cubase as 'USE SYSTEM TIME STAMP' within the MIDI setup (Devices Menu) seams to have cured it?

The answer was on another forum in the form as:

Hmm.. had a friend with this problem, they used SX with an STAudio DSP2000. Apparently, there's a fix in SX 2.2 that allows you to "USE SYSTEM TIMESTAMP" which might fix the problem (apparently *some* midi drivers expose a timing problem with SXs own midi timestamp) - I use a DSP2000 myself and have never had this problem so I don't know why my friend is - still it might help you.

So it seems to be a driver problem? and a USB driver problem at that?

anyone else had this problem?

biggrin
