It's not too hard to get a close match to the sound using
other synths but there really is nothing that can do it exactly..
It all comes down to whether the difference is worth an extra £500-odd
pounds to you? Especially when you factor in that the 303 is a
bit of a one-trick-pony that has the dubious honour of also being a bit
of a bastard to use.
Personally I'd love a real 303 but I wouldn't buy one unless it was at
a seriously bargin price; the chips, pots + boards are getting
pretty old now (and were probably pretty cheaply assembled to start
with), making it a bit of a risky investment (look at the juno 106's
these days).
Besides for less than the cost of a second hand 303
you could get a new Future Retro synth which to me is a lot more
tempting!
Anyway - back to the topic at hand: Someone buy the man's 303!
