Musicians Union - it is there for YOU! whether you are a DJ or producer/writer they will help with contracts, venue polotics and accounting!

for just £8 per month they will be there to give legal advice...FREE! They can help you with your accounting and save you TAX!

They will also collect fees due and royalties if unpaid for whatever reason!

The MCPS/PRS are neutral and wont help you! They will accept regestrations but mainly protect the publishers and record labels!

So, if yo are serious about your music and have interest shown in it then join the MU!

If you are looking into setting up a label - DO IT Properly and view all the information on the MCPS/PRS site!

You are not really a label if you just think up a name and push your own material via the net as you need to understand music contracts, Licencing deals and Publishing before you take on another artist!

The legal shit will catch up with you if you dont do it right....especially later on down the line and a few tracks later!

Im NOT on commission with the MU im just giving you a warning before your shit hits the fan and you are out of pocket! you cant join with an ongoing music payment problem!

We have the same sort of service in Germany ::::: GEMA

The GEMA - a trustee for music authors and publishers

Those who compose music, write lyrics or publish musical works have a right to proper payment.

Those who compose music, write lyrics or publish musical works have a right to fair payment. This is regulated world-wide by national copyright laws and international agreements.

Composers, lyricists or publishers, however, are not always able to check on their own where, when, how often and for how long their works are being played. Furthermore, individuals cannot make sure that they are actually receiving payment for their work.

In Germany, this is the GEMA's job ( the "Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte): The GEMA has been recognized by the state as a trustee for administration of the exploitation rights of 45,000 members and over 1 million foreign rightholders.

As an authors' society, GEMA has adopted the legal form of an economic association. Its work is subject to the supervision and control of the German Patent Office, the Federal Cartel Office, Berlin's Justice Senator and the General Meeting of the GEMA.

This ensures that all parties are considered fairly: Composers, songwriters and publishers receive their proper rewards. And the GEMA's clients who use music for their own purposes have access to a global repertory of copyrighted music.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

TRUE STORY HERE :

GEMA phoned up a record company  here and demanded that all real audio or MP3 clips on there web can be no longer than 1 min . The record company owned tracks that they were plugging on there own web page . GEMA still insisted that by there music union law 1 min was the maximum amount that was aloud to be listened to .

do you have to become a one time member or do you have to register each track you do?

you become a member for as long as you pay the subscription, they act as independant help for you when you need advice in record contracts, venues etc...

So lets say you are a DJ paid to play at a venue and they refused to pay after the gig, you can get onto the MU to fight them for payment.

You have a contract handed to you from a record label and told to seak legal advice.......send it to the MU and they will scrutanise it for you and make changes in your favour and point out the pitfalls if you sign it.

A label decides to put a track of yours out with out your authorisation.....get onto the MU to help sort it!

A label decides to sell your track online and not pay you....the MU will help.

Im just supprised that a lot of you arent in the MU and aready have tracks out with a label or for download via a label looking

anyone with a serious interest in Music should join for piece of mind...and for £8 a month is less than a night out on the piss! winklaughing
