Really??? Sounds interesting, could be good for music production too eh!!

I'm gonna be flattening my pc soon and rebuilding it. I'm gonna partition it and install 2 OS's, maybe this should be the OS for my music side????

Microsoft Windows Tiny XP Beast Edition
Description: eXPerience Presents… Windows TinyXP Professional SP2 Beast Edition Unattended CD This special ‘Beast Edition’ of TinyXP is designed to be hell fast! Internet Explorer and Outlook Express have been removed from this edition. Mozilla Firefox web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird email client are included as replacements to Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. The latest edition of MSN Messenger (v7.5) is also installed. This edition of TinyXP includes Ethernet LAN drivers, Mcft Sidewinder drivers and Sound Controller drivers. All keyboard layouts are included. All languages have been removed apart from United Kingdom. The default Luna theme has been removed, but this edition includes the XP Amp theme as default. Most of the networking features are removed from this edition, this is because this edition is intended as a gaming edition that you can surf the internet with. It is NOT intended as an operating system for use in a corporate environment to squeeze a little bit more production out of the poor employees, however, MS Mail and MAPI are included for compatibility. Also kept - 16Bit Support, Disk Cleanup, the “core” of Internet Explorer, Task Scheduler and you are still able to open ZIP files without the need for any any third party program. Services left remaining are: DHCP, DNS Client, Event Log, IAS, Network Provisioning, Performance Logs and Alerts, Secondary Logon, Shell Services, System Event Notification, Uninterruptible Power Supply.

From what I can gather it is just an XP install which has just been cut back to the bone as it were. Essential OS services and files installed only

why laugh? can't see anywhere on this thread where is says it's cracked/fraggd or proper? windows make several versions of XP that aren't readily avail to the populus - is there is a badged version of XP/sp2 that you can use with rom emulation software for windows 2k3 but the only place you can get it is via msTechNet - so imo it could have come from a similar source. but still v interested as my archaic pootah cunts up on me if i try to run ableton while watching a 4Gb porn (joking)

The way this has come about is that someone has installed a copy of XP, then uninstalled/removed the frilly bits of the operating system, like IE (they have left the core files that Windows needs), Outlook Express, Windows Messenger and other programs that are not erally needed for windows to run.

They have then disabled all non-essential services which improves the startup time of Windows and lowering the memory usage while windows is running. They have also removed the vast amount of drivers that XP has built in, but left the main drivers for graphics cards, network cards etc, again improving the startup time of windows.

It is NOT, I repeat NOT a new operating system, it is nothing more than a severely cutdown install of XP.

As such it will be seen on the internet as a standard install of windows, and if you enable automatic updates again then you will receive updates, as long as you have a valid serial number for the OS.

I have no clue why Ziggy is being so secretive about this. After all anyone with a decent understand of Windows services and componants can do this on ANY XP machine

I never said you said this is a new version of Windows - just that some people are getting that impression for whatever reason.

I just don't get why you don't post the links up in here mate, not as if they are not freely available on Google

Surely though bro you understand why it's best not to post the actual links up?

From my experience it sits better when you make your own version of XP if you are going to do this at all. There is software, it's free and I'm annoyed it's name escapes me now, but it's a very simple friendly interface and you literally untick the boxes of what you don't want in your XP, finalise your project and hit burn disc. Everything is there, the smallest install I have seen for XP is 80meg.

I'm not saying this "beast" edition won't be wonderful, just saying if you think it's worth having perhaps look a little further into it first. We all use our pc's for different things, and what is good for one man may not be for another.

Music Style !! HARD !!
You can make your own version of this using an app called XP Lite. Install it and it allows you to delete protected programs such as IE and Outlook express and other rubbish you might not want like MSN etc.

so you're telling us that anyone with a decent understanding of xp can do this?

ok so how many people here know how to integ the hosts file, remove unwanted Dll's and services, some of which are soley dependant of internet citeria etc. stripping down xp is NOT an easy thing to do, so where you're getting this guff from is beyond me

have you ever known zig to do anything long winded, i certainly haven't

my thoughts are if you don't have anything nice to say, write it don in an email send it to yourself spanner, all i ever see from you is gripe gripe gripe.

is your life that wholesomely shite that you take on the mantle of chief nobber
