I'm trying to sort out my mates laptop. He produces from it, but I stopped short of installing XP service pack 2, because I heard reports of programmes not running after. He is using Cubase SX, Halion as well as wavelab and a few others ....

Does anyone know if it would be a problem to install SP 2 ?

Music Style does my rig look big in this?

It totally crashed all my sound, dvd the lot and Logic Audio and Pro Tools.

I was not impressed, Gradually got it sorted but then more problems kept appearing. thank god i had a backup pre SP2!

At one point Microsoft had a helpdesk of 800 ppl fielding complaints about it

It seems ok if u install it from a new installation of XP etc but if u install it over the top of other programmes it does seem to cause problems

We've had to remove it off people's machines at work coz it does stop programs working however some ppl seem to have no problem with it.

Hmmm, mixed reports then. I'll not bother with it for the time being, as my pc seems to run fine without it, and I don't have the technical knowhow to fix it if SP2 fucks all my music software.

sp1a is the best from i've heard and in my experience, had sp2 for a while, found it ANNOYING as fuck since it's advanced security protocals are unnecessary imo....

have also heard that it is just plain unstable on certain systems for some reason.... sp1a if i were to recommend thumbsup

I've not yet had a single problem with SP2.

There is an option when installing it to backup all the old files tho, so if you do have a problem you will be able to uninstall it.

Update all your drivers then load sp2. Should be smooth sailing. Most sp2 conflicts are due to out of date drivers

Pro Tools LE is not compatible with SP2, as far as i know...I *had* to install sp1 to get it to work, but it says on their website they dont support SP2
Why do manufacturers have to make shit so difficult????
