If you're quite techy with computers and general gadgetry, Id go for the Archos AV300/AV400 instead.

But
to answer the question, just look at their feedback (as you would on
ebay) . . . for something that expensive tho, Id definately make sure
they've made a shitload of sales and all customers satisfied!
I
like the iriver because you can use many different formats...it has an
external speaker...you can upload from any digital camera onto it and
store your pictures...the Archos are nice because you can record
straight from the tv but I dont really care for that myself...as if I
put any video on the media player it would be DVD's most likely...do
you know alot about the Archos? I have only done research on them
both...never owned or used one.
My mate's got one, it can do everything you just listed . . . of
course, it is not on the official page, but the Archos has been made a
project for many a geek - there are a few OS's out there which do
basically turn it into a full blown media player, and formats is not a
problem (a computer if you wanted). The dvdrips he's put on them are
absolutely amazing, he can store pictures and video (as well as output
to TV).
but if you've done research on both (whereas Ive only used the one)
then you are better informed of what to get. The Archos is a
geeks toy due to everyone writing their own little applications and
OS's.
