Serious answer here! 
I reckon it's cause the hard dance scene (especially the underground) is (on average) a lot more accepting of gays or anyone of a minority. It's great to see ppl who are old, ppl who are disabled, ppl who are gay, pl who are (shock horror! black!) .. being able to just get down to the business of enjoying themselves and not getting a hard time.
I have a mate ... on the surface of it you'd think he's pretty fucked socially, but has found a friendly and happy niche in the underground Bristol club scene ... He's black, he's disabled .... and he's gay! And he's a brilliant person! Who gives a fuck.
