For proper deck-to-deck mixing I'd go with Serato or Traktor. If you want to take it further then Live 7.

if you are using traktor i don't see the difference from mixing with cd decks

i've never used it, i take it, its good then? I've had a quick go on ableton and couldn't get my head round it, too fiddly on a pc me

Ableton'sclip view is good because it is basically a mixer setup. If you delete all channels but two, click on A (down the bottom of the channel) on the first one, then B on the next one, then automate the crossfader (bottom right hand side) with a slider on your midi controller, you can mix like youre on decks - but with your own trax.

Drop a few fx in and automate them to your fav knobs/dials and youre all peaches!! Beat repeat on a kick channel is the shit! Muck around with Live, theres alot of good things on there..

Go here for a tutorial dvd which helped me heaps getting my head around it all....

depends totally on what you want from the software really ableton is a great bit of software, but if all you want to do is mix tracks like you would using cd's or vinyl then traktor all the way imo
