thanks guys wink

has anyone used the built in laptop s/c for production? obviously its not ideal but is it really that shit? cant get specs for the laptop i'm after, just says "soundcard" laughing

here's the lappy: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Esprimo_V5505,_Core_2_Duo_T7250_VFY:EM81V5505BU6GB/version.asp

i dont wanna spend too much on a s/c at first so was looking at a cheap usb interface (mainly for dj'ing as i need 2 o/p) and using on board for production.. ?

also i read this laptop has a ExpressCard/54 slot - read briefly about it basically replacing PCMCIA - is this ExpressCard/54 the PCMCIA Express u were talking about mate?

just to add this is the s/c i was lloking at : http://www.soundz.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=ECECH002

anyone thats really interested in this can maybe check the laptop and s/c for compatibility - the s/c requires a type II cardbus slot - is that standard PCMCIA?

Get a novation Nio2|4 for the soundcard. I use one for my live shows and it's rock solid.

If you only want a few channels of audio, USB is a better choice than firewire on the PC due to several commonly used firewire chipsets being quite flaky with some hardware.

Can't fault this firewire card for Ableton because of it's 6 independant balanced outs and the amazing sound. thumbsup
