Yep, still deciding on what to try first and now got a few to give a go...any thoughs on my selection and help with some questions?

1. KRK RP6 or RP8? - not much difference in low frequency in spec but more power on the 8's and of course prob better bass on the 8" woofer or too much? Some say the RP6 has crap bass response?

2. Tannoy reveal 8D - these look odd and never usually a fan of tannoy on their lower range for dance production....got an ESP on these from a Hard dance producer who says they are the best?

3. Event TR8XL - never tried the EVents...anyone else?

4. BX8's - heard too much conflicting issues with these so not sure?

5. Alesis MKII Monitors - I know a few of you have these are they acurate enough and do they last?

6. behringer Truths - I know its Behringer but i have heard good things on them...dunno about the acuracy though?

Cheers guys!

I know i wont really know until i try some of them...but always good for a pre-heads-up smilethumbsup

I've got the Precision 6D's and the TS10 sub and they sound ace  Si, try and get the Precision's over the reveals if possible.

They sound a lot better

I only have Max £500 to spend on Monitors, can always upgrade if i get any money back from music,,,but until then i cant spend anymore on music equipment frown

But i need decent monitors with full flat sound and bass definition as this is the only problem i have left now in getting that awesome mixdown.

behringer truths have a terrible reputation for reliability, my local shop wouldnt even sell me a pair as they had so many returns (they showed me the stack going back) they sound ok but... Ive got m-audio bx-8's and 6" tannoy reveal passives, cant grumble about the bx-8's only cost me 180 b stock, never had any problems in 4ish years, v loud. Tannoys lack bass, but all smaller coned speakers do, they do sound good though.

True, that is why i got my sub, the mids and highs are clear as crystal without a sub, with a sub it's a dream

ive gigged the m-audio's as dj monitors too, so they have been fairly abused (humped about and ran at max volume for extended periods of time) and they are still working perfectly si (read other people saying theyve had problems)

Agreed, the mids do seem clearer than the bx-8's.

I have had some of these for just over a year and they have been OK and the sound I get out is good.  I don't do production at the moment and am using them as monitors.  I hope they don't die on me eeek

To be honest, If I was you, with your budget, I would probably only be considering the first 3 on your list (now ive read it properly  -need to stop posting from my phone, it takes too long to read everything so I just skim and reply)

I'm about to go and listen to some KRK RP6's and the Alesis MkII's.

They're the two I've narrowed my choice down to.

I have the Events.. Absolutely love them. Massive frequency range and solid low end. I know Jon BW and Simon Paul have them aswell.. I bought them instead of my M Audio BX8's which i just did like for producing. Thought they liked clarity at low range. I'd get a good mix on them and found it sounded different elsewhere. Maybe i could never get the settings right on the back for the room i was in. I did'nt know much back then compared to now tho.

I've got the event tr8's but find you have to have them quite loud to get the best out of em, nice solid speakers for the price tho, not realy heard any of the others enough to comment.thumbsup

mm, mix bag of reactions really! munted

But just goes to show that you have to try before you buy for your own opinion... but got to day glad i asked as its also reliability as im not just buying speakers am i? Im buying an amp too! Cant afford them to die on me and send them back and forth as im not close to any of the music shops.

Please also be aware that im no DJ and a total studio engineer so its studio only speakers i want... i need what i hear in the studio to be exactly what is played out on other speakers being flat but punchy. clarity is my main aim, the mixdown quality is up to me rolleyes

an example is that my NS10m's go from 60hz to 22hz and sound precise, clear but being 60hz there isnt any bass...so no getting the bass mixdown right if i cant hear the frequencies! The tops are a little harsh too so not good for long listening times!

Adding a Sub isnt good either as even though i can hear the bass, its a little 'coloured' and fake. I tried this with two different Subs. And too much for my room so i had to have them low..which again defeated the idea if a sub.

30-45Hz should be enough with Bass...but rear ports may be a problem with the back sloping roof/wall? The RK8's look as though they have front ports?

Alesis i hear are too big especially in the bottom end...probably great in a larger room with acoustic treatment and for DJ mixing?

Mid frequencies are just as important too....... my shermanns (KRK ripoffs) have tops and bass but crap Mid. So i dont want to get speaker which sound like them!

So, i think maybe an 8" driver but not too bigger a box?

All guess work at the moment!

Cheers again guys!

biggrinthumbsup

Far too much writing for a Sunday morning Si haha

I've been through a few and I've settled on HHB Circle 5's. Not made any longer but, HHB stock parts so still a good buy and come up now and again if you keep an eye out. Designed for use in the BBC studios. A very nice even and detailed sound. I bought a second set the other month as back ups so, yeah I recommend them.
