Best advice I can give you is to go and see someone that's proficient in Cubase.Sit with them and write a complete track from start to finish so can see how it's done.You will learn more in one day than months of messing about on your own.

I suspect you can hear it because your amp is powering the speakers at a certain pre level. If you switch on a standalone amp and turn the volume up, you will hear the same hiss on the speakers without any music.
